this is gorgeous how, through food, you've shown the level of devotion between these two men. Sherlock for thinking so hard about it, and John for just being John. :)
Eggs Benedict, indeed. XD He'll have to pull that trick out for Sherlock some day.
Oh what a lovely treat! Honestly, I hadn't meant to inspire something like this, but I will not be sorry for it! Oh how lovely and bittersweet this is, and your Sherlock is perfectly socially inept, and John is of course, being a Bad Ass Mother...Hen in the kitchen. Such a perfect way to describe their relationship in canon with the series, and now you've put all sorts of lovely scenarios in my head about what could happen next. You are dangerous for my productivity, you know that?
Thank you for the lovely brunch-time fic, it was simply marvellous and I feel completely spoiled. <3
Heheheh. I'm so, so pleased you enjoyed this! I didn't really mean to write it, either, but then there it was, so whether intentional or not, I appreciate you putting the thought in my head. And I think Bad Ass Mother Hen might be my new favorite flavor of BAMF!John, honestly. I love to see him looking out for Sherlock. Thanks!
You hit some of my headcanon for Sherlock's thoughts on food right on the nose. (His annoyance at the entire process, the fact that he's perfectly fine managing his own health and John is nagging unnecessarily.) I enjoyed this exploration of food and characterization, especially how they ultimately express their emotions through small actions and not great emotional statements. Food is a surprisingly complex topic, especially given how much of it ties into identity and I like seeing more fics that touch on this.
And hello unexpected link to my ridiculous fic, on a list entitled epic food fics even! I am pleasantly surprised.
Aw, lovely! I'm so glad those elements rang true for you! I think, to my mind, those small actions are ultimately what most relationships are really made up of, much more so than those grand gestures, and one of the things I love about Sherlock is how well those subtle little moments are rendered (Sherlock's little smile when Angelo returns John's cane, for instance). Anyway, basically, thank you, and I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed this!
And, my goodness, I love "It's All Down Hill From Here"! It's so delightfully absurd, and yet completely spot-on.
Yes, those small moments, the subtle facial expressions are one of my favorite things about the show. (Personally I am sometimes frustrated that I cannot always portray those as easily with words instead of pictures.)
and thank you, it is good to hear you enjoyed it and I hope the rest of it proves just as spot-on. (It will certainly stay just as absurd haha. So many more terrible food joke titles I need to use.)
Yeah, I know what you mean about struggling to capture those little nuances. I begin to feel like a crazy person, describing all this pointless minutia, but it matters!
And as for "It's All Downhill," as long as you keep writing 'em, I'm sure to keep reading 'em! (Especially when they have marvelous food joke titles!)

(Of course John can de-bone a chicken, unlike some of me us.)
