I love the tidbit about Sherlock wanting acknowledgement more than approval. That sort of desperation describes a perfectly haughty and fragile being all at once...and I think I like to think of Sherlock like that. :D And John is almost humble to a fault, lovely man <3
Aw, yeah. I always think of that moment in "Study in Pink" when Sherlock says to Hope, "Did I get it right?" And partly it's that all he cares about is the "result" (as Hope says to him earlier), but I also can't help thinking that he just wants someone to tell him how clever he is. And, yeah, I like it when John's humble. I mean, he's a BAMF and he obviously knows it, but he's very matter of fact about it, like it's no big deal, and that's lovely. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this!
I live and breathe J/S slash, so I hadn't been following this series, but it's a lovely transfiguration of the characters -- Sherlock as a magician who longs simultaneously to impress and to be exposed, that's just a brilliant reading of his character. Here's hoping you find inspiration to continue this series!
Thank you! Although you can't tell from what I've written so far, in my mind this series is slowly edging its way toward slash. Maybe someday I'll actually get there. But I'm glad to hear this worked for you as a treatment of their characters ("transfiguration" is such an appropriate word for it!). As for continuing, I don't know if you saw this or not, but I actually just posted another piece in the series yesterday. I have a few more little bits in mind, too, when time permits. It helps to know people are reading and enjoying, certainly, so thanks for taking the time to comment!
