the new shins album has finally grown on me.

(no snarky comments about it just coming out last week, please. it leaked in like october.)

I liked it right away, though it's plateauing (I waited for the official release). I am still working on The Crane Wife & now have it pretty much worked out which songs I have to skip in order to enjoy the better numbers. Colin can be a bit of a classic rock hack despite himself. I prefer when he doesn't seem to be referencing Dire Straits.

yeah, with the crane wife i have to skip both "when the war came" and "perfect crime #2" in order to enjoy the album.

high fives for the true connoisseur’s art: skipology! If it weren’t for having terrific instincts in this area, some of my very favorite albums (come Eps) would dwindle massively in stature.

I am ranking the new Of Montreal as aproxiametly equal to the new Shins, although the former is obviously a lot zanier & funky (read the native slightly obnoxiousness of Of Montreal.) I could see Wincing feeling boring next to it.

I just can't muster any enthusiasm to even try out the new Arcade Fire. I liked Funeral, but it's so long it feels like a chore when I think about putting it on. I'm hoping to be sort of taken by surprise by the new one after accidentally hearing it at a friend's or something. Maybe good things will come to those who wait.

really? I loved that album since I first listened to it. It's one of my two favorite albums of they year thus far.

i loved it on the first listen, and then decided it was boring, and now i love it again. right now the new arcade fire and of montreal are still ranked above the shins.

i think of montreal is my #1 right now, followed by the shins, followed by andrew bird. this is a really great year for music already.

i seriously think this has to be the best year in music since i've become a huge music fan, and it's only january! right now arcade fire is probably my favorite, and andrew bird, of montreal, and the shins are way up there. i'm also really into elvis perkins, and the new apples in stereo is pretty good. gah! so much good stuff! and there's still ted leo, modest mouse, and wilco releases yet to come in the first half of the year! this is just ridiculous.
