The legends were wrong. There were five archangels, two who rebelled. Enochian lore says that the renegade angels were lovers, bound to their fate as they were bound to each other

Lucifer had spent enough time among the mortals to know that staring was socially unacceptable. But after centuries of criscrossing the globe, searching for where Samael had been hidden, he’d finally found him. His lost love. He can still remember the anguish screaming across Samael’s grace as they were ripped apart for the last time. Samael sentenced to live out life after life as a mortal while Lucifer was thrown into the fire and pain of the Cage.
He knew the moment he saw the remarkable young man that it was him. The echo of an archangel’s true voice behind his laugh, the brightness of his soul gleaming like a captive star.
Samael. Although the name tag simply read “Sam”.
His own grace flared as he tore his gaze back to the display case. “I’m not sure what I’m in the mood for. What do you recommend?”
Sam felt a swell of warmth through his entire body as the man spoke. That was not normal. Every part of him ached for the stranger who had just come in his door.
Coming back to his senses, Sam cleared his throat and stayed firmly behind the counter when he would normal approach the customer to help.
"The, uh... the double fudge brownies are my best seller," he said, fumbling over his words.
“Double fudge?” Lucifer had developed something of a penchant for chocolate since his escape from Hell. Admittedly, it had all started when he first encountered Devil’s Food Cake and was confused enough to try it.
He smiled at the sound of his voice. It was a faint, insubstantial echo of his true voice, but it was familiar enough to fill him with warmth.
“All right. You’ve sold me. I’ll take one.. Sam.” It was enough to be close to him now.
His brownie paid for and in a little plastic shell container, he couldn’t help but linger near the bakery. After millenia apart, he couldn’t bear being too far from Sam.

The idea of anything abnormal happening in his life was one he didn't entertain. He liked his life the way it was: uneventful and, well, normal.
So when a man entered his bakery one morning, he didn't think anything of it. Just another normal customer, he was sure.
"How can I help you?"
