Baby didn't know where he was - he'd seen Heaven, and hated it. It was not a paradise, but a prison. Thusly, he'd been trying to stage a jailbreak for a while, to no avail. But, this wasn't Heaven
( ... )
Baby sat up slowly, rolling his shoulders and banishing the stiffness from his limbs. Where the hell was he? Baby blinked, vision a little fuzzy, though it was slowly clearing. He didn't see Lucifer against the Mustang, and dizzily picked himself up off the ground, setting a course to stumble for the office across the lot. Maybe he can get back to the Roadhouse from there, start over. Like he hasn't done that a million times already.
Lucifer is rooted to the spot as he watched the form that shimmered into view sit up, roll his shoulders and stagger in the general direction of the motel office and the very surly human behind the counter. It couldn’t be anyone else. He knew that body, had spent nights memorizing every line, watching the way he moved, the barely contained grace.
Baby
In that moment he neither knew nor cared how Baby was back. Only that he was there.
A flurry of wings and he was in front of him, catching Baby as he staggered. His eyes were wide with mingled disbelief and joy. It was him. No other soul gleamed as brightly as the car-come-human. He only managed to stammer out a few startled syllables before he gave up on being coherent and dragged him into his arms.
Alive. He was alive.
The archangel closed his eyes, sending a silent thank you to whatever brought him back. He wasn’t sure if it was his Father and frankly he didn’t care.
"Wha - Lucifer?" Baby gasped as the archangel appeared in front of him - what, how, who - and caught him with strong arms, pulling him into a tight embrace. Baby managed to shake some of the numbness out of his limbs and hug him back, hands fisting in the fabric of his shirt, shocked and unwilling to let go.
"But, how...how are you here?" Baby asked, voice muffled against Lucifer's shoulder. He almost shrunk away, however - a few angels had tried to pass themselves off as Sam and Dean in his memories, and he'd caught them immediately. Lucifer, however...no one had ever tried to impersonate him, and Baby hoped to God they didn't start now. That would well and truly crush him.
"You've returned. You're here. You.. you're back." Every word is punctuated with a soft, disbelieving kiss along his lips, cheeks, jaw, every patch of bare skin. His wings manifest without being consciously called to wrap around Baby. "They've given you back to me. They sent you back."
Lucifer doesn't pull back, he simply holds him, as if letting go would somehow shatter the illusion and he'd disappear all over again and he can't bear the thought of it. "They sent you back to me."
"This...this is Earth?" The question is awed and shocked but Lucifer is there, wrapping him in his warm, comfortable wings and kissing every inch of him and Baby doesn't want this to be a trick. Please let me stay...
"I missed you," Baby wraps his arms around Lucifer's neck, pressing as close into the angel's chest as he can, flush up against him. "God I missed you..."
