to smell the variously sweet and earthy plants

wednesday was our first prescribed burn of the season. i wasn't sure i'd even be on the crew, but i ended up being one of the four igniters for our site. after a few minutes of slight awkwardness, i became pretty comfortable with the process. it felt strangely natural and was very exciting, to have such a powerful force nearby, and to have just ( Read more... )

That shot of you with the fire is so awesome. I was looking at it and started to imagine if I was your kid, like in many years from now, looking at it, and thinking about how wild and crazy and powerful and brave you look. ARE!!

I am on my way to my last Wisdom School class for a while. Should be good, though I barely slept last night. I was totally tangled in crazy lucid dreams about my sister and her girlfriend (?) swimming in the ocean out to these big waves etc. etc. and at one point I even found myself completely abandoned with no money or id. All I had was a tommy bahama-style beach bag that matched these horrible palm tree pants I was wearing which was filled with beach stuff and cheap jewelry I had taken from my sister's house thinking it was worth something. And then there was the crosscountry hitchhiking with no money and palm tree pants - so weird!
Anywayz, thanks for the great morning read to accompany my oatmeal and cranberries. Peace - Mandy #2

when i was a kid we would do burns like that on my grandparents farm in the 'burgh (alburgh, vt) i loved it! we didnt have fancy fire equipment like you, and basically our job (me & my brothers) was just to stand with shovels to beat the hell out of the fire if it crossed a certain spot, but it was so much more fun then the other things we did at the farm, such as butching cows or stacking endless cords of wood.

drone on, love jb

fire has been the most fun part of my job. someday i'd like to burn on private property too. i want to convince all (or at least some of) the rural-suburban rich people to burn their yards instead of planting hostas and myrtle and kentucky bluegrass.

I miss your wildness. I know I am saying that I miss you all the time, but it is so true! When Zach was here he said that you are awesome in the band because you just play the same thing over and over and it is so chill and relaxing. What's the name of your band? are there more wcbn pics? I was thinking of going to rokeby for new years, but if you guys are coming I might have to stay in b-ton. Mandy and I just went behind the Intervale and watched 2 gb herons on the pond. one was eating lunch. we were eating cookies.
home items misses and needs you.

the name of our band is 'wooly mammoth', for now. we really wanted it to be 'loud clouds', but then zach said there is another band around here called 'odd cloud'. oh well... and yes, there are more wcbn pics, mostly really blurry ones of us playing. will show you sometime. maybe pretty soon!
