in-game records
This post holds all of the documents and various records of information found in Somarium. They hold valuable clues pertaining to the world's mysterious past...and what could happen in the future. These can be read at any time through the Dreamberry. They are stored in the RECORDS folder in the inbox.

These are various documents that can be read.

✦ hypnosia
Uploaded on August 10, 2011 by Ryan (NPC)

Hypnosia. The name of this planet. It sounds like you guys all thought this world was called Somarium, but I guess that can't be helped. Somarium is just one of its major cities, but I'll get to that later. Point is, the actual world is called Hypnosia, and it's round just like any other planet. As you can probably guess, it's in its own little universe or nexus. Are there other planets around? Probably, but we haven't really done any study on that. We have our own hands full with everything else just here. But like I said, it's your standard habitable planet. Not a metaphysical "dream world" that a lot of people thought. It's as real as your own world.

[OOC note: The word "Hypnosia" is based off the Greek god of sleep, Hypnos, though it also bears more resemblance to the word "hypnosis." Characters are free to notice the similarity.]

✦ somarium
Uploaded on August 10, 2011 by Ryan (NPC)

Somarium. This city, Somarium, is a major city of this world. In fact it used to be the capital over a century ago. After the war, it was sealed off and it wasn't until about three years ago that you people managed to come in.

And in case you're wondering, yes there are other cities out there. Not that many, but there are a few. Some of the people originally came from here, Somarium, when they were evacuating. But most of the others came in through other worlds. The reason why it took us so long to get here was because a) we had no freaking clue until the unnatural activity reached our charts, and b) all the original Dream Gate connections to Somarium have been long broken. Add to the travel distance, and there you have it.

Somarium is a special place, and for a reason. But I'm not authorized to tell you more than this. Someone else will.

✦ dream gates
Uploaded on August 10, 2011

Dream Gates. The Dream Gates are basically the pathways that connect this world to every other world out there. Think of them like highways or roads. But the only way to access them is through dreaming, or in something similar to that. When your brain reaches that level of deep meditation and your subconscious basically takes over. Daydreaming, deep meditation or concentration, getting knocked out, or even dying. Those are a few examples of how someone can connect to the Dream Gate. Other ways would be simple world travel. All you need is to hit that connection, and you're locked in.

Thing is, the Dream Gates are currently screwed up, especially the ones that connect to Somarium. This was for a reason-it was to help keep out people from other worlds to just randomly appear. In the other cities, we have machines and other teleporters that help control the flow. But for some reason there are a lot of unstable connections being made here. We're trying to fix it, but working with the Dream Gates is rough work.

✦ dream energy
Uploaded on August 10, 2011 by Ryan (NPC)

Dream energy. Why no one ever told you this, I have no idea. But here's the quick run down. Dream energy is like any other energy resource out there-wind, water, oil, even electricity. But as you probably guessed, dream energy comes off your dreams. Whenever you dream, you produce dream energy. Hypnosia is also special in that the planet can also the absorb the dream energy from across all the multi-universes through the Dream Gates.

Anyway, just so we're clear, it's only a source of energy. You can use it for a lot of things, but in its raw form, it just helps support the life here. Can the living creatures survive without it? Of course. Dream energy acts more like a supplement or additive. If this planet were to run dry of dream energy, everything on it can still go on so long as the other natural resources are around. If you haven't noticed, this place is kind "magical," so the only thing lost would be whatever magical or special abilities that the dream energy naturally provides.

There are different types of dream energy, and they're called "strands." They come in different colors, too, though that's more for identification purposes. Some strands are more useful for certain applications, others can be universal.

But dream energy is pretty strong. Just a few quarts could power up a car and keep it running for months if refined right. That's why a lot of the power used in the city comes from Dream Energy, and there are machines that automatically collects and distributes it out.

✦ morphean core
Uploaded on August 10, 2011 by Ryan (NPC)

Morphean Core. The planet itself stores the dream energy in what we call the "Morphean Core," which is basically the center of the planet. It's like any other planet core, but it also has dream energy in it. There are millions of smaller channels and tunnels that connect it to the surface, and in some places they pool and form special wells. These wells and channels help collect and distribute the dream energy, so it essentially recycles everything.

That giant sink hole out there? That's one of the Morphean wells. The reason why Somarium is located in this specific spot is because of that well. It was one of the largest ones and history books say people could swim in it. Not that I would. With that much condensed dream energy, you would have to be crazy to. We're not sure if this particular well is still currently active. Sometimes the channels and wells may get blocked or just dry up. We do know it's messed up. We'll be trying to investigate further now that it's no longer infested with monsters. There is some activity going on, but its somewhere deep down there.

[OOC: The name "Morphean" is based off the Greek god of dreams, Morpheus. Characters are free to notice the connection.]

✦ dream control
Uploaded on August 10, 2011 by Ryan (NPC)

Dream control. I mentioned this to a few people before, but I'm adding something here so you guys can look it up yourselves. It is possible to "control" what you dream in Hypnosia. That's one of the "special side effects" that dream energy has on you. But it's not as easy as it sounds. You know how sometimes if you're thinking about something before you fall asleep, or if you have something on your mind, you'll sometimes dream it?

That's basically how it works, only there's a higher possibility of you dreaming whatever you're thinking. All you have to do is think and focus on what you're trying to dream. Since you're all new, you won't get a 100% guarantee, but you should get something close. Try it sometime.

✦ nycteren
Uploaded on June 28, 2011 after the flood.

Nycteren. Related to the noctaere, these creatures are more aggressive and grow in power during the new moon. Unlike the noctaere, they are purely nocturnal creatures and do not rely on shadows for their movements. They come in may forms and sizes: air, land, and water. Some say they are considered more dangerous and "nightmareish" because of their behavior and their nature.

Their tell-tale mark is the purple crystal usually located on their foreheads, though some have been seen to be hidden elsewhere on the body. This crystal is their weakest point. Give it a hard strike and the nycteren will fall and turn to ash. However, this tactic comes at a price. The striker will suffer and witness their worst nightmare for a few seconds. The dying creature will transform into some form representing that nightmare. Only the striker will see this vision.

All other methods of execution will not result in such a terrible experience. If confronted with a nycteren, use any other means possible. It is like any other creature, and they are weak to light. Destroying the crystal should be the last resort.

[OOC note: characters may recognize the "nyct-" prefix meaning nocturnal and can draw assumptions from the word origin. the word is based of "nycterent", another clue.]

✦ evacuation procedures
Found in the Tunnels.
Attention all residents of Somarium. Under orders of ////// you must take only the bare essentials and proceed to the nearest evacuation exit. There will be signs and officials outside to guide you.

Once you've reached the underground shelter, continue through to the teleporter and await further instructions.

PLEASE REMAIN CALM.

✦ evacuation plans
Found in the Tunnels.

Somarium is in a state of emergency and it has been ordered that all citizens must be evacuated and sent //////// immediately. Those who are able should help civilians out of their homes and make sure they only take what is necessary. Attached is a diagram of all the exits, and there will be guards on standby to help defend should any of the Noctaere appear.

DO NOT ATTACK OR PROVOKE THE NOCTAERE!

Focus on getting as many people as possible to the underground shelter and leave the fighting to the ////////.

✦ experiment records
Found in the Tunnels.

[These documents are several pages of diagrams, including accurate drawn images of the Sphinxes and Minotaurs in the tunnels. Sphinxes are labeled Guardian Type Beta, non-aggressive unless provoked, and Minotaurs are labeled Guardian Type Omega, which are noted to be extremely stubborn and determined to achieve their goal. Each are noted as a 'reshaping of N. NOCTAERE ENERGY into a manufactured guard of Refuge Gates.' They are all 'Pre-Programmed to recognize allies from enemies' and are safe with women and children. They 'Must undergo regular maintenance' to examine possible programming and construction faults.]

✦ clues
Found during Murder Mystery.

❂ Clue 1
This clue is a very blurry picture, though a few things can be made out. On the left side, a tall, long, dark haired pale woman is standing, a small body lying on the ground in front of her. Her arm is outstretched, her hand held out, as if holding something emitting a strange light aura. But the picture is too blurred to make anything significant out.

It is stained by the same silvery liquid substance that was found pooled beneath Precious' body back at the Grand Hall. Who is this woman?

❂ Clue 2
This clue is a small document titled "NIGHTMARES". It looks like it was torn from a journal of some kind, the handwriting sprawled and barely legible. It reads as follows:

"It seems our suspicions were right. To harness such a dark force would only bring great misfortune upon this place, and we should just keep to the dream energy we have now.

However, nightmares are expected in this kind of world. But who knew they could have so much power? There is still so much of this world we do not understand, despite our intensive research for the past thirty years. Was it a mistake to open the gates? To send them out there?

For now we can only continue to refine and enhance our own resources, and hope she does not become too consumed by the dark forces that lurks over there."

❂ Clue 3
This clue is of a strange diagram. It only has one image: a dark, black filled circle. What could this mean?

❂ Clue 4
This clue is a small document titled "PRECIOUS". The writing is in shorthand, but is neat and crisp.

"Name:
Age: 9
Gender: F
Blood Type: B
Height: 4'
Notes: Body is stable. Brainwaves, normal. This is her fifth iteration, but she does not show any signs of fatigue.

Her body will remain under surveillance until we wake her up in 09:00 hours.

Exceptional for her class. Will focus on her training later this week."

❂ Clue 5
This clue is of a strange diagram. It is a generic drawing of a human and various notes written on it.

At the center, there is a dot with an arrow pointing to it. Above it the following word can be read: "Source".

✦ nightmares
Found during Murder Mystery: clue 2.

"All dreams produce some type of energy in Somarium, and nightmares essentially produce strong, powerful negative energy. As the dream energy from other dreams are used in Somarium, the nightmares are also harnessed elsewhere.

Studies have shown that there has been a sudden increase in nightmare energy within the past five years. The origin, however, is still under investigation. All that is known for sure is that it is not within Somarium, but it is within this world."

✦ dreamwalkers
Found during Murder Mystery: clue 4.

"Dreamwalkers are those who can walk the path of dreams. There is a link that is formed once the person fall asleep, and theoretically anyone can travel this road. However, only the dreamwalkers can actually fully harnass and control where they go while remaining conscious.

By leaving their physical body behind and freely controlling their spirit, they can go wherever they wish, traveling from dream to dream. It is also believed that dreams can connect not only from person to person, but to other worlds as well.

They have many abilities, the more powerful ones being able to project something akin to an astral projection outside into the real world. They cannot be damaged when in this form. However, if the physical body is harmed in any way, there is a high risk of death from the sudden shock. Also, since the spirit has been separated from the body, the connection will be lost upon death."

✦ dreamwalkers: abilities
Found during Murder Mystery: clue 5.

"As mentioned in the main article, Dreamwalkers hold powerful abilities. While in this form, they are stronger and can perform actions they could not do normally. However, this is due to great mental and spiritual control. It has been discovered that most, if not all, of their power can be found in the very center of the brain."

ROOM DETAILS

✘ Barracks (rooms A, B, C) - These are living quarters for those who used to live here. There are bunk beds and a few single cots packed in tightly; there is also a sink in each room. Some old trunks and few tattered remnants of clothing could be found by or on the beds. Basic appliances like TV, radio, or telephones are also present in each. There also might be other small things present: the barracks look like they've been left in a hurry, so a lot of stuff is still left.

✘ Storage (rooms D, K, Q) - Filled with barrels and crates. Many are empty; some used to store food, but any food inside will have rotted away. A few could also have some random things like clothing and fabric.

✘ Armory (rooms H, P) - Contain various basic weapons; a few guns are laying around, but there is no ammo. Shelves containing tools such as rakes, hoes, shovels, axes, etc. are also present.

✘ Records Room (room I) - Has bookshelves filled with hard to read books and scattered documents; there is also a table with a couple of diagrams and notes. Paper is strewn everywhere.

✘ Guard Room (room N) - Since it's right by the main entrance, this is just where people were stationed to keep an eye on the entrance and people entering and exiting. Monitors and phone lines present.

✘ Conference Room (room L) - This room is not freely accessible: there is a keypad lock with a password that one has to enter to unlock the door. Inside is a long table with upturned chairs, scattered documents, a giant map of the city and village, charts, and a large computer screen.

✘ Big Gray Area - Empty antechamber to the Super Computer Room. If one looks, one might find remnants of the now broken and useless teleport portal. Near the wall is a control panel, but it is no longer functional. Otherwise, the room is relatively empty.

✘ Super Computer Room - Location of the giant computer, along with smaller computer terminals around it. The computers are the main source/generator of power, but also hold data of dream energy readings specific for its power use. If you try to access these computers, they will work at first, but then soon shut off.

✘ Main Office/Maintenance (room S) - Just another office room with desk and stuff dealing with operating the Super Computer. More documents and records and such.

✘ Lighting - There is lighting in the tunnels. Dim lighting. From the torches lining the walls. Characters are free to take one with them if they so desire. The rooms will have their own overhanging lamps as light sources.

TRAPS

✘ Pit Trap - The dots marked in orange mark where parts of the floor may or may not fall away from beneath the character(s). At the bottom one or more of the following could be there: Nothing, rubber snakes, grass, shells, 3 feet deep water, foam tipped spikes. The pits will be ten feet deep, but some will have ladders. ...That are probably broken.

✘ Icicle Fall Trap - The dots marked in blue mark areas of the tunnels where icicles could randomly fall from the ceiling onto the unsuspecting group. Fortunately, these aren't too huge and miss most of the time. Plus, they turn into snowball cones if they do hit a person. So the worse a person could get is a bad case of the chills and being sogging wet. Also, the place where you got hit will be stained blue for a short period of time. And a little snowman will appear.

✘ Fire Torches Trap - The dots marked in red mark sections of the tunnel where a set of six blow torches (two rows of three) will fire from the wall all the way across to the other side. Now these will activate in timed intervals. There is a three second delay, and any caught in the line of fire will not burn to death, but they will be set on fire for a bit before it goes away. Burns may happen but after a short period of time it will heal.

✘ Sphinx Riddle Trap - The dots mark in purple indicate where a Sphinx will be waiting. [ NONEXISTENT AT THIS TIME. ]

✦ computer room
The following information is written:
"This computer connects to the others outside of the main base. It helps control and maintain the dream energy used around the city. In case of evacuation, use the override code to lock everything down and shut down all the Dream Gates and wells.

Only she knows how to reactivate it..." (the data is scrambled here)

✦ floating mountain diagram
A diagram of the floating mountain is displayed, followed by the following information:
Height: 5143.78 ft
Diameter: 3287.21 ft
Condition: Stable
Location: Eighteenth Quadrant
A C T I V A T E D

❦ ruins
The desert ruins appeared in the Moon Cycle 59 cycle. It is located right by the sinkhole with monsters usually roaming around it. The following information are some notes that were recorded into the Dreamberry and are publicly accessible.

✦ secret room
Based off the Moon Cycle 67 event, here are some details that can be found within the secret room (Note: Pictures are included as well as text information):
  • Castle Mountain Model. A large model of what looked to be a mountain floating in the middle of the room. It is five feet high and six feet in diameter. It is not a holograph, and there were no strings attached to it. It is literally floating in the room. There even is an odd light shining down upon it. The mountain is not the same as the floating mountain that can be found hovering around Somarium, but one may easily mistake it for it. There are parts of a castle built within it. Large, elaborate gates on the face of the mountain indicate its entrance. It is immovable.

  • A giant mural. A giant mural painting at the very back of the room. It looks almost like a diagram of sorts, with three distinct sections: top, middle, and bottom. Each section is divided by wavy lines.
    1. Top. At the top is a hollow circle with white clouds and mountains around it. Beneath it are distinct figures of robed people gathered underneath. They surround a strange, almost rainbow colored fountain of waves that appears as if it is erupting from the ground.

    2. Middle. This "stream" of color flows into the middle portion where a large oval shape is in the center. It almost looks like a well. However, at the bottom of the well is another "stream," but the color grows darker as it approaches the bottom portion.

    3. Bottom Dark mountains and strange shadowed beasts-beasts that may look eerily familiar for some who have been in Somarium for a while-lie beneath a dark, filled in circle.
Upon closer inspection, some may notice that other shapes encircle the main drawing, and it will be clear what those shapes are: the phases of the moon. Clockwise, the cycle wanes into the dark moon and waxes into the full moon. What could all this mean?

  • More diagrams. Along the other walls are more diagrams of strange shapes and figures. Depictions of people sleeping with strange images above their heads. Images of squares and pillars with strange swirls within them and people walking out. Different colored circles connected with different colored lines. Anything that is brightly colored tended to be more positive and cheerful. However, anything that is darkly colored and black depicted something darker. Unnatural beasts and shadows. Death. Figures dressed in white fighting against those dressed in black. A painting of a familiar looking sinkhole could be found, and it seemed to be dragging in and swallowing small figures of people inside it.

  • Broken platform. Somewhere in the corner near the back lay the remains of something that really doesn't look like it belongs. Those who are acquainted with more sci-fi technology might associate it as some kind of platform pad. Those who have been around the lake might find it similar to the teleportation pads that transport people to the floating mountain. Whatever it is, it looks more modern and recent in comparison to everything else. It also looks as if something had deliberately destroyed it. Parts of it lay scattered around. The base of it is immovable, but smaller pieces can be moved and taken.

  • Another room. There is actually another room that is connected to this main room. It is smaller, but it is just as puzzling as the main room, if not more so. All four walls are covered with what looks to be one continuous mural-or map rather. Should one stand at the center of the room and looked around, they would see that lining the top of the walls are clearly images of mountains. The majority of the wall is yellowish in color, but there are odd different colored dots scattered around. They vary in size, from being as large as five inches in diameter, to the size of a ballpoint pen that could easily be mistaken for a speck of dust if not for an odd line and symbol next to it. Some have other lines drawn to each other, some stand in isolation. There are even some black ones, and next to these are strange characters that is clearly writing. These writing characters can also be found by various other colored dots.

Should characters look up at the ceiling, they will find themselves staring at a giant white moon. Should they look down at the floor, they will discover...nothing. Just a floor.
