[Information] The "Ghosts" and NPCs
the ghosts and npcs
There are two types of NPCs: normal "human" ones that reside throughout Somarium and the "ghosts".
NOTE: As of August 20th, 2010, the floating castle and its ghostly inhabitants have disappeared from Somarium. No one has heard word of them since then. However, all information about the Overlord, the ghosts and her subjects will be kept intact on this page for the curious and the nostalgic. The normal NPCs dwelling in the city and village still exist as usual.
The standard NPCs that are accessible to everyone appeared not too long ago and have since stayed. They take up any empty, available space not yet claimed by characters and bustle about like normal people. Their main purpose is to help maintain the city though there is one peculiar detail about them that should be noted: they are all adults, raging from their mid-20s to mid-50s. There are no elderly or children NPCs. These NPCs can be godmodded, employed, and even killed, though there are consequences of caught.
The "ghosts" mostly dwell within the floating castle (crashed and dissolved since August 20th, 2010). What is known about them is very limited, save for the few interactions that they make with trapped denizens of the world. However, it is revealed that they are actually not ghosts. In fact, they're not even dead. But due to their appearance, they are referred to as "spirits" or "ghosts" by the other residents. In fact, they were called ghosts by those who first arrived and they just never actually disputed it. Until it is later made clear what they are, this post will still refer to them as ghosts until it changed for the appropriate term (which will be revealed at a later date).
It could be said that most, if not all, are rather open and friendly to everyone, however, so there is no real fear for them. Read Ghostly Appearances for more detail on how they randomly appear.
It should be noted that all the Somarium NPC ghosts are played by the mods and are essentially original characters.

Of all the ghosts, she is the most important yet also the most mysterious of them all. She appears from time to time, and attended the store for a while so other people have met her there. However, she now mostly resides up at the Castle. What she does, no one knows.
It is unknown of how long she's been there or why she is even in Somarium. Some believe she is the reason why people arrive here, that perhaps she summoned them. Whether or not that is true is a different story. The general consensus that she is the rule and/or overseer of Somarium, and with good reason.
The Overlord holds a lot of power. She is the one who created the barrier around the city and is able to change the scenery of the world. Several times during holidays has she altered the look of Somarium to fit the season. She also will give warnings or use her powers for other things, mostly for the good of everyone. Though sometimes her magic can go awry.
Her personality is a bit...odd to say the least. She will always carry herself as if she were of nobility, but as her memories have been altered and lost (how and why is another mystery), she can come off as a bit of an airhead and tends to not complete her thoughts aloud. She becomes unintentionally cryptic. It is hard to get any real information from her as she also cannot reveal the truth about the world. The Overlord can be very sympathetic to the people, however, and will try to help in any way she can. She can also be a bit of a prankster, too, though. She finds mild amusement when people start to freak out upon first meeting her, and going through people or suddenly appearing before them is something she enjoys doing.
She can also pass through the Dreamberries, another trick she enjoys.
It has been revealed that she is in a weakened condition and has descended down to the people to answer questions and inform of them of things they should know.
On August 20, 2010 she disappeared mysteriously and had not been heard from since.
That is until over a year later on August 28, 2011. She has returned once more in an astral form and revealed her true name - Sylvani. It has also been revealed that she is but a powerful dreamwalker and guardian of Somarium. At this time she shared many revelations with the inhabitants of the city.

Yes, amazingly enough, the Overlord had children. Or at least that's what they claim. There are two known ghosts, though their names are a bit unknown. And if anything ever happened to them, the Overlord will be quite displeased. Her children are no longer in Somarium, and only she knows why. But it can be assumed that it cannot bode well for those still here.
❖ the overlord's precious precious princess
One is a mischievous girl who has introduced herself as Relle to a few. She loves to giggle, invade personal space, and likes puppets and dolls. She's more open and talkative, but cannot reveal much either. She refers to the Overlord as "Mommy". As suggested by her "title", she is held very dear to the Overlord and will worry about her constantly.
She has long disappeared from Somarium, much to the Overlord's distress. Yet no one knows of this and probably will never know unless she tells them herself. She knows why her daughter is gone, and knows that it does not bode well.

Not much is known about the Overlord's elder daughter. She is a mysterious figure, who tends to be secretive as well as be a bit sarcastic. It's questionable if anyone has actually seen her.
She too has disappeared. It was during the sandstorm and monster invasion, though how and why are unknown except to the Overlord. One day she may tell them, but it is a sign of dark times ahead.
❦ the court - gone since august 20, 2010
There are other ghosts that float around and they are basically considered as part of her court. They will sometimes appear to help or bother other people, as well as follow the Overlord's order. They made their first appearance during the Christmas holidays to help aid with the Secret Santa event.
They used to help run the "ghost shop", but due to the Overlord's weakened condition, they have stayed up in the castle attending to her.
❖ arielle
She recently "awoke" and is one of the Overlord's closest ladies-in-waiting. She is usually seen around the Overlord, though she will sometimes wander on her own. She is a mysterious woman, only speaking when needed and usually with cryptic frankness.
She actually will sometimes appear in the form of a cat.
❦ the servants - occasionally making an appearance every now and then
There are other ghosts who appear from time to time. These appear using the somghostnpc journal.
