Scary??? Were you tormented by mince-meat pies when you were a wee tot? Panicked by persimmons?

If you must know, my mother is a huge fan of minced-meat pie, which was sadly on-hand at every Christmas dinner. Fortunately, it was there in lieu of lutefisk.

I do, however, like persimmons.

My apologies - I had no idea the rhyming taunt had some truth behind it. Lutefisk is bad, but the gefilte fish I'll be faced with this week is ..shudder... Elynn's mother is coming up from Florida - she called to tell us that it was too much trouble for her to even buy the gefilte fish in a jar, so she's bringing canned. .... shudder....

Strawberry-rhubarb pie is sweet and tart; the juices, with cornstarch, sugar, flour and spices, make a thick syrup/gel. Would you like me to drop off a slice? Always willing to convert a newbie. I fell in love with this pie when I was a boy - it's different1, and good!

1 - which might explain why Doug likes the pie
