I wrote some drabbles today during class. So...the product of my boredom. Feel free to spread it along.
Stay Gold
Loosely based off The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the Socs and Greasers belong to her, but this is still fake. Title belongs to Stevie Wonder's song, "Stay Gold". ~100 words.
Brendon stepped into the center of their circle. He looked between the Socs, his enemies, and the Greasers, his family. He shook his head.
"Okay," he said. "I want a good, clean--" He was cut off by a bottle flying past his face. His eyes widened and he leaned back, then turned to the Soc responsible. "What the hell man? I haven't even said 'fight' yet!" He shook his head again. "You know what?" He took a two second back swing, then punched the Soc square in the nose. He smirked before ducking to avoid another beer bottle aimed at his forehead. Fighting broke out around him.
Uncle Sam Needs Your Help Again...
Came about in history. It makes sense if you've heard the song/read the writing. Title from Country Joe and the Fish, "I Feel Like I'm Fixing To Die". I promise no one dies, though. Not very realistic either. It's fiction. It doesn't have to be. ~250 words.
Alex DeLeon pulled his friend to his chest. Cash sighed and hugged him back.
"I'm gonna miss you, Cash," Alex said. He smiled to hide the tears preparing to fall. "We're throwing you a big party when you come back."
Cash smiled slightly, though he and Alex both knew all too well that he may never come back. Don't think about that, he urged himself. You will come back. People come back.
He thought back to when he first told the guys about his decision. Ian had nodded and left the room--he was found again behind the apartment building, smoking a clove and throwing a tennis ball against the wall--and Marshall congratulated him on his decision before following Ian out the door. Alex said he would support the choice, but Johnson was not happy.
"What the hell were you thinking, man?" he had yelled. Cash had cuddled into Alex's side at the volume and intensity of his voice. "People die in 'Nam, Cash! They go and they don't come back!" He had stormed out after that.
Now, Johnson stood to the side with Ian and Marshall, determinedly avoiding Cash's eyes.
The tall man called for Cash, and Alex kissed his forehead.
"I love you," Cash muttered into Alex's shoulder. Alex pushed him back a little to smile at him.
"You be careful out there," Alex said. "We're gonna be waiting. You're only in for six months, until your dad can pass the physical and take your place."
Cash nodded and boarded the bus, smiling through the window at his best friend.
