I'm down for worlds of Starcraft. I don't think it's realistic to ask a gaming company to "step down" not only because they won't do it, but because they've earned the right to keep a hit going. In the case of WOW, a combination of a well established world, good marketing, and great gameplay have made it dominant. I agree that people shouldn't just dismiss something else because it "isn't WOW" but at the same time asking a company to cease making money off of something it invested time and effort into is not very fair.
I do however agree with innovation, and I think that applies to WOW. I'm glad they're going for new types of quests in wrath of the lich king, because it will be an improvement in the gameplay, not just a set of new locations and weapons.
Blizzard won't step a cash cow like WoW down in the name of innovation. Money is king and WoW rules atop a throne of cash. Also, it's Blizzard, a company renowned for awesome games and blowing everyone else out of the water. They simply found the MMO market and owned it. I mean can you imagine how much fun SWG would be if Blizzard had designed it

WoW is a linear MMO whereas SWG was a sandbox; rather different games altogether (and then Sony decided SWG needed to be linear as well and... well... that was that). So I don't really think SWG would have been any more fun, per se, if it had been made by Blizzard. It was brilliant at first, it was simply trashed later. I suppose Blizzard wouldn't have forced players to fight butterflies, though, maybe it would have been space-pigs instead. ;p
