Mincemeat pies seem to have gone the way of the dodobird on this side of the pond--which I think is a blasted shame. I dearly love to put a large spoonful of mincemeat into my pumpkin bread. Nobody can ever figure out what that flavor is and I won't tell them. (GRIN!) Do you make your own mincemeat or do you buy it prepared? :^)
I usually buy it in jars (often at a discount after Christmas because the stuff's designed to keep well, for goodness' sake!) but I'm contemplating making my own, so I can leave out the sugar and actually eat some myself ;)
Here lately I've been seeing recipes for the old-style traditional mincemeat--which contain meat. Have you ever tried such a mincemeat pie? If you leave out the sugar, what sort of sweetener do you plan to use in its place--if any? :^)

No - and I'm vegetarian, so I never will ;)

Having pretty much given up sugar, I think the raisind=s and such will be sweet enough on their own.
