After about 18 months of the all-clear, on Boxing Day my father suddenly developed retinal problems in his basically remaining, right, eye and had emergency surgery in Barrow-in-Furness on the 28th. The surgeon made 500 laser welds to hold it together. Yes, FIVE HUNDRED. My father was totally exhausted and must rest lots and refrain from lifting
