1) If you could hang out with an actor or actress (dead or alive) for a day who would it be, and why? Toshiro Mifune OF COURSE because he was the coolest EVER
It's one of the movies I could watch over & over :)
Yep, Beefheart sure had a way with words, didn't he? I love how those "commandments" can sound absurd or nonsensical at first and then all of a sudden they become profound.
Excellent choices. Goddamn Mifune was a good-looking man. And immensely talented of course, but handsome in the way that only old timey movie stars were handsome.
Just went back on my flist after a longer absence to see if something catches my eyes, and lo and behold - does this post ever do that! Balm for my hay fever tortured eyes. I do wish though Mifune had made more films where he wasn't just the cool guy. He was great at that, and I could watch "Yojimbo" and "Sanjuro" over and over again, but at some point he almost got reduced to it. His earlier movies show more variety. What are your favourite Mifune movies, if I may ask?
(Edited because I forgot to pick the matching icon.)
*waves* Ack sorry for the super late reply... I'm behind on LJ again... 😂
*nodnod* Totally agree that I could watch Yojimbo & Sanjuro over & over but yes, he did end up reprising the Yojimbo character so many times in other & mostly lesser films... and TV I guess, though I've never had the chance to watch any of those shows.
Fave Mifune films, omg... I really loved Samurai Rebellion. It's harsh & bleak & kinda difficult to watch but I just loved him as the older dad-type guy who decides, "Fuck it, I'm gonna break society's rigid rules--no matter what it costs."
Other faves: Stray Dog, & Drunken Angel. Oh, and Red Beard! Also really tough to watch, but he's so great in that one.
Oh, and (speaking of non-cool guy Mifune roles) I kinda have a soft spot for The Rickshaw Man, despite its sappyness :)
There are a lot of his movies that I still haven't seen though. On my to-be-watched list: Animas Trujano, I Live in Fear, Hell in the Pacific, etc.

I like the ten commandments of guitar playing, especially number 3.
