Since the summer semester ended, Zayne had been back on Reciprocity, managing the needs of the military along with the needs of... well, everything else. Ever.
The needs of the military were complicated, of course. The war Zayne had been fighting was still on the Outer Rim while the Mandalorians pressed inward toward the Core Worlds. While Zayne had been fighting for Essien months ago, the Mandies were getting a foothold in the Charros system. While he was out here in the Rimworlds, they advanced on Eres III, apparently attacking without care for what condition they left the planet itself in.
But Reciprocity followed Zayne's philosophical lead. In a brutal war, this was a ship with a conscience, even when Zayne was in Fandom. That meant assignments away from the real danger. Republic command couldn't afford a ship that refused to return the Mando violence in kind.
"We're not doing enough here, Morvis," Zayne confessed as the Captain stepped into Zayne's chambers. "Eres is being destroyed."
"We're doing everything we can, Carrick," Morvis said. "Don't forget what you've taught me. You can'r let the little things fall through the cracks."
"Right now it's just hard to remember that the little things will matter if the big things get away from us," Zayne said. "I miss being a freelancer right now. Used to be if I needed to take care of a big thing, I'd be able to organize something so I could face it."
"Well, you're in luck. Revan himself requested Reciprocity for a mission," Morvis said. "The Mandos have a secret POW work camp on Borosk. We're the nearest cruiser and it's right down our alley. And we have one of the few people in the fleet who could plan a rescue mission this idiotic."
Zayne was quiet for a moment as he started to think it over. "Okay, I'll need everything we have about the operation on Borosk. I assume it's not much."
"You're right, Lieutenant," Morvis said.
"Okay. I'll see what I can do, but I think most of it's going to be improvised," Zayne said.
"Isn't it always?" Morvis asked, handing a datapad over. "Let me know if you need anything else. And work fast, Carrick. We only have two days to pull this off."
Even though he had spent years fighting the small fights, it was nice for Zayne to have a reminder that sometimes those fights were part of something bigger. Now he just had to figure out how to win this small fight....
[OOC: I meant to establish Zayne out in space last week, but last week sucked. Zayne will be back in town mid-week.]
