I don't normally read the end of stories, except when, like with you, my suspicions are aroused. There are just some scenarios I'm not going to like, no matter how well written.
After a few bad reading experiences, I always read the ending first now. It's not just squicks. Sometimes there's major character death, completely illogical plot twists, a new pairing for the lead character that appears at the end, etc. There's no warning for it and the author thinks they are being clever by doing this
