important things

I haven't posted in so long because Green Party politics has taken over my life. But 2 days ago something truly important happened about which I cannot remain silent: Harry Potter 6.

RAB has to be Sirius's brother, Regulus, the Death-Eater who repented and was killed shortly afterward ( Read more... )

I actually cried myself to sleep when I finished the book (talk about being attached to someone who doesn't actually exist!) AND THEN I re-read the last bit of the book a few nights in a row after that to make sure I wasn't imagining things, followed by further crying in bed. It was pathetic.

And I thought I was upset over Sirius. Wow.

Hi Brandy! I only bother posting to put something "on the record" so to speak, full knowing that no one ever reads the record. Since I don't have time to read anyone else's, it's actually an equitable arrangement. But I still read email (God knows how many hours a day -- I'm trying to figure out how to carve out a real life from internet time), so you can still talk to me that way ( ... )

The other thing to consider is that Dumbledore had a portrait generated at his death, so Harry will probably still be able to talk to him.

I consider this a flaw in the book's theology, actually. She's adopted the stance (a la JRR Tolkien and Ursula Le Guin) that resisting death damages the soul, most notably in horcruxes. The Tom Riddle diary was identifiable as a horcrux because it had self-will. Mr. Weasley scolds Ginny to never trust anything that thinks for itself if you can't see where it has its brain. But what are these portraits that have personalities and self-will and can interact with the living, if not some piece of the person's soul preserved among the living? I wonder if she's going to address that or not.
