Not Needed in Filk

It's been a few years since I tried to write for other people to listen; I stupidly entered a filk contest at a con dedicated to filking, wrote what I thought was a funny song about Persephone, using all of the words assigned by the judges, and was completely ignored. It was my first try, and it had taken me decades to come out of my shell enough

I'm sorry to hear it. You can definitely still be a member of the filk community without performing (my wife Colleen), or performing only covers (Toyboat), or only writing and never performing at all (Kanef).

Some groups are more welcoming than others, but it sounds as though you also had somewhat unrealistic expectations. Which is not to belittle your feeling of rejection - I know way too many people who have had what might have been a fun hobby ruined for them by an unkind remark, or even just a feeling of personal inadequacy (me and graphic art).

I wish I could sit down with you in a corner and talk and swap songs for a couple of hours.

Sweet Bear, You totally can if you are coming to Conflikt 2019... Hey, I only stay crushed for a certain number of years. Tried again in 2017 & 2018 and am very happy so far :-)
