yea luckily my family doesnt do gifts either except for kids. Though if this year is anything like last year, my daughter cried. It wasnt that she was ungrateful for the gifts they gave her, she was. But they got her things that its pretty hard to be excited about as a 5 year old tomboy. Things like a porcelain music box with a ballet dancer on top - she does tae kwon do... not ballet. She also got things that were more for babies and clothes that were wayyy too small. My family just doesnt give any thought into what she needs or wants and they dont typically ask. I made an amazon wish list in hopes that someone will ask and I can direct them there. Easy shopping.

Once when I was a kid we took small toys [like pvc's, happy meal toys, small stuffed things] and tied them with yarn, this is all the ornaments that we put up. That might be something your daugther would have fun with.
