If you can actually get a form to fill out as a New York voter, I believe there is a place you can check off to say "change my registration" or whatever. I think that's what I did to register in FL after I was already a Bucks co voter.

ahh! thank you for reminding me to send in my absentee ballot thingy.
i was also going to register in ny, but i'm already registered here and ohio is a major swing state, so i definately want to help swing it to the left.
