Jack (cat) got diagnostic imaging today and when the vet begins her report by saying, "I don't have good news," then one can be pretty sure that a hard decision will need to be made shortly thereafter. And so we gave him such love as we could, and he purred madly for a time, then was ushered gently into whatever comes next

Medical details for the curious: the ultrasound revealed some irritable bowel, an inflamed pancreas, and, in his chest, a curious lump where none should be, so an x-ray was performed. This revealed a tumour the size of my thumb near his heart and not just a constellation but a nebula of pinhead metastases all over his lung cavity.

Seriously, fuck cancer.
