There are some things I don't get that the majority probably understands. Like drinking soda, especially on a regular basis. I don't see the point in spending money on something that's not beneficial health-wise (really the opposite), and I think it's especially impractical to be doing regularly. I'm sure you're getting plenty tons of sugar in ( Read more... )

I drink soda at least once a day. I would never argue that it's good for you or "not that bad", it probably is. I typically grab a can on my way to class, it's convenient. I drink juice in the morning and water throughout the day too. But my water is from a Brita pitcher and when I'm already late it's easier to grab a can of Diet Coke than to fill up my Nalgene (yes, I'm lazy and always running late). I grew up with soda but not whenever we wanted, my sister and I got to split a can a couple times/week. My roomie grew up w no soda and she drinks it nonstop these days. So yeah, I dunno.

and so well spoken, too! :p

soda sucks, but i'll defend people's right to drink it, or something. i can't believe people are getting bent out of shape over cans of mountain dew, ahahah.

milk and juice taste better and make me feel better, and when i want to indulge in something tasty with bite, i go to delicious cocktails. soda water's good, and thomas kemper's is okay, but soda had its glory days in uhhh middle school. i stopped drinking it freshman year after my track coach carried in a bag of 33 grams of sugar and lectured us about carbonation and dehydration.

If i don't drink mountain dew at least once every couple of days my body starts rebelling against me and threatens to shit everywhere like a pidgeon.

I don't drink soda either. :) I was raised by a very health conscious mother, so when I wanted to drink something interesting I got apple cider or water with carbonation. I think I'm better off for it-- I don't even like the taste of most sodas, so not drinking them isn't a struggle.

I do like the occasional Sprite/7up, but mostly because they settle my stomach when I don't feel well.

Another thing that is only tangentally related but that I think needs to be said:

While I am not going to jump on the ALL DIET SODA IS BAD AND YOU WILL DIE IF YOU DRINK IT OMG CHEMICALS bandwagon, diet soda can be more dangerous than normal soda because most people don't get tested for allergies to things like aspartame and sucralose.

I'm pretty solidly allergic to aspartame, and guess how I found this out? I tried diet soda once and was sick for a week. Then I tried it again a couple of months later because didn't suspect anything from that, and it happened again. THEN I got tested, and what do you know. It'd be nice if it was more publicized that fake sugars are huge allergins so that people could make sure that they are okay for them to drink.

What was with the asshole kid? Some people need to learn how to discuss things without getting angry. It's a valuable skill.

The thing about constant soda drinking is that no one ever talks about how bad it is for you. You hear how bad smoking is all the time. You can't avoid it really. You hear a fair amount about alcohol too, though they never seem to bring up how many calories are in it.

I didn't drink much of it growing up. We were more of a juice family, which has tons of sugar too, so I don't drink much of it anymore. Now I am a sparkling water person, and iced tea sometimes, though I can't really have the caffine.

But people really shouldn't drink their calories. A lot of people would start to lose weight if they just switched from soda to water.
