A plea to you parents out there...

Or anyone who's memory is good enough to think back this far. For the last six weeks my friend, Emilie, and I have been putting together a Minischool program. What this amounts to is that on Friday afternoons for an hour I dominate the room as the only person over three feet tall and attempt to teach kids (ages 4-6) to do the Hokey-pokey in ( Read more... )

If you can manage to get your hands on a parachute (the kinds for doing activities with kids, not a skyjumping parachute), kids LOOOOVE the parachute. I do it with ages 3 - 5 all the time. You need a few adults to "operate" the parachute, however. Like you can have the adults wave the parachute up and down while the kids sit under it (this never fails to get all the kids squealing with delight) or the kids can wave the parachute with the adults and you can put things in the parachute that fly up and down with the parachute (nerf balls, or small stuffed animals, or anything soft, really). If you have a strong enough parachute you can have all the kids sit in the parachute and the adults hold the handles of the parachute and walk in a circle and give the kids a ride...there are so many things to do.

Also, as a librarian, I am obligated to tell you to also read to them! :) I can provide you with a huge list of books if you are interested.

Awesome! I will have to look into the parachute idea, I remember doing that as a kid.
