I've finished watching episode one. I'm so hooked but I have to tell myself not to stream anymore but to wait and buy the real thing. I might not even be able to buy this right away because it's not finished airing and they might only have fake bootleg versions for sale right now. Though hopefully by the time I have time to go down to Pacific Mall they'll have an official release of the drama... This first episode made me cry. Like seriously, I was ready to start eye-leaking when they tried to take Angela away. I've never watched anything that's moved me enough and made me want to cry except the Lion King when I was like 10, ha ha ha. Maybe I wanted to cry after LotR, but I don't remember. I think if I did, I would have remembered. ...So I don't think I did. (But that movie is still epic.)
Anyway, that must be the power of Taiwanese dramas. I've never watched one before so I didn't know. Now I do and I should keep a box of kleenex with me. Otherwise, I think this drama is really cute. Angela was a good choice for the role. Apparently this drama has garnered a lot of attention because Wu Zun (of popular Taiwanese !popboyband Farenheit, oh noes!) is the lead rich young man. Fan comments about him are everywhere. I would agree he's a good-looking guy, but somehow I like Chen Yi Ru better. ...=/ Every time he smiles it's almost as if he's hiding something, or it's a smile with a touch of mockery, or a secret he won't tell... and it makes me want to smile too. (Case in point, the part when he says "看來有人不這麼認為喔" or later when he suggests Wu Zun drink wine. Aaahhhh, that smile...!) It's weird, cause in the outside world I don't like people who are so obviously arrogant. I guess if it's TV I make exceptions.
Wu Zun was a good choice for his role too, since he has the right look for a prince-type character. He'll fit even better once they get the stick out of his ass. He's so cold and cruel (and does it well) to Angela though he'll turn around soon. I love when she says she would have beat him up if she were a guy.. "這個人...要是我是男生的話就樣你了啦﹗" Right to his face! He is literally in her face for a lot of this episode too, in a stalker kind of way. Because he is seriously stalking her to try and run her out of the family. It's actually kind of scary. Well later he'll be in her face for different reasons A lot of fans were complaining about that. Pfft. I think they look good together, but I'll watch and see what happens.
These 南風 knights as they call the four brothers... have interesting names. Wu Zun is 瑾, obviously displaying his status as a noble. Yi Ru gets splendour [of silk?! he's smooth, so maybe] 彩. And I have to laugh at the other two where one, the kind of loser jock is 麟 (*snerk, great name for a guy?), and the emo boy is appropriately named 影. 影 really makes me laugh at how suitable it is. "Women can't be trusted. [...] Don't you ever say that woman's name in my presence again." Oooh, is that some past relationship buuurrrrn?
The only thing that bugs me is the Taiwanese accent to some of the Mandarin, being a Taiwanese drama. I just can't stand how they omit the sh- sound for everything. I noticed Angela does do it sometimes too, though not very often, and when she sings she doesn't do it either so I can accept it as she just talks fast. But argh, 誰 is shei, no sei, and 是 is shi, not si...! 討厭!!
I really want to go on and watch, but it'll be worse for my study habits and I want to buy the CD set so I can have quality picture. I don't know how I'll hold out. This drama is only 17 episodes or something. Even if each episode is over an hour, that's not long at all... and it makes me sad.
