DC update

I am leaning towards the train option, because it's faster (I'm not a big fan of sitting for long stretches of time) and more familiar to me. It's looking like I'd leave early Saturday, Oct 14 (leave at 8:30ish, get to DC around 10:30 am) and come back late Monday, Oct 16 (leave 8:30 pm)... This allows for the cheapest tickets and about 2.5 days
