Movies watched in 2012 - part 1

1. Black Gold
I got dragged into watching this movie by a good friend (who's a huge fan of Mark Strong) and didn't expect much of it. But I was surprised by how much I liked it. I had never really given any thought to how the Arab states started to be these huge oil exporters - and I never checked if the movie was historically correct - but I know feel to have at least an idea about that time.
On a more shallow note: there were a lot of nice looking people in this movie. Both Riz Ahmed and Tahar Rahim (playing the lead male) are pretty sexy boys :) And Mark Strong and Antonio Banderas are also still very nice to look at it.
Plus the setting was really beautiful. The deserts with the wide sky above them, the oases and the palaces once again reminded me of the beauty of this region (and how sad it is that the problems there destroy so much ...).

2. The Hunger Games
I loved, loved, loved the Hunger Games! For once a movie that is just as good as the book it's based on. As you can guess I already loved the book :)
All the actors were prefectly cast. Jennifer Lawrence rocks as Katniss (just as in every other role I've seen her in) and Josh Hutcherson is lovely as Peeta. I actually believe that the two of them will be able to pull off the harder storylines from the following books.
I actually thought that none of the charcters could have been cast any better. Effie was just as annoying as in the book, Rue's death made my cry again, Lenny Kravitz is a surprisingly good actor.
The only thing that wasn't so great were the mutts which didn't look like the dead Tributes at all.
And now I'm looking forward to Catching Fire, out on November 28th 2013 (so bareley 11 months to go ...).

3. American Reunion
Now, I'll be the first one to admit that American Pie 4 (the name it was given in Germany) wasn't a great movie but I still loved it as it brought back all those feelings of nostalgia. I was 14 when all my friends and I were crazy about the first one, i.e. the perfect age for all those childish jokes ;)
Plus I always love seeing Alyson Hannigan in anything (I blame you, BtVS!). And it was fun to see all these guys so grown up.
Though I have to admit I don't really remember a lot about the storyline ...
