OMG! Are you going to Nottingham now? Earlier in the year, I was originally thinking of going because of reasons you perhaps remember and then it all fell apart. I'm not going this year now, but if you're going next year, I am totally going. Well for one day, I'm not brave enough to tackle the whole weekend.
And yeah, I think I'm pushing it with the US (especially Ohio), Nevada seems almost doable, but that's because it's Vegas and I need a holiday. :D
I haven't registered for Fcon. For similar reasons to you I'd decided not to go...but it's one of those decisions which is being constantly tested. I would actually love to go but can invent any number of reasons not to. :/
My reasons are headed 'Freaking Terrified'... Though admittedly this year would be pretty much a no go now anyway due to cash (I blame my nephew) and a wedding next month that is so not organised (my nephew again) and I'm supposed to be in charge of food.
Note, I'm never to blame.
At the moment, I 100% intend to go next September (though by August my knees will probably have given way beneath me - perhaps I should book months before) and I'm seriously considering either Killercon (because it's Vegas) or Context (because we know so many people who go there and if you know people it's not as scary - I hope), but it does depend on cash. I promised my little mum I'd take her on holiday to Whitby/Scarborough next year.
Will Mark be launching your novella at FCon next year?
I'm going to borrow your rabbit-in-the-headlights look in about 3 weeks when I go to my very first conference. It's a local one over at the coast where we stay, although nathan bransford will be there, but it's not a specfic genre one, so I don't expect to see any big names there or anything. I almost lost my nerve on signing up, but I thought a small one like this might get my feet wet without making me feel too uncomfortable. HAH! on the uncomfortable part. I expect to keep my nose inside my notebook and pretend I don't see anyone, and that they can't see me, wither.
I think I'd prefer a huge con to a small con. I could get lost in the crowds and no one would notice me sitting in the corner have a nervous breakdown.
OH NOOOOES! I hadn't thought of that. Yikes. Um, gee, thanks for pointing that out. (heheheh) No, actually, I think the smaller will be a little easier for me. It's the sheer numbers thing that make me want to hide. And meeting new people. And walking in some place where I know no one. And... ok, enough now. :0
