And now, for the REST of the story...

As you all know, my kitty died last week. Here’s what I couldn’t write about until I calmed down enough, and got over being angry with my husband enough, to find the funny.

Tom was a 15 year companion, and a very funny kitty. There was a lot of not being able to deal with the death, that day, because I was at a big luncheon. I thought, and I think ( Read more... )

Um...wow.

When I asked Jordan if y'all buried him, he said, no, I made him a Viking funeral.

I wasn't sure how he put Tommy on a little boat that he made so quickly, and set him adrift on the Connecticut River, but I figured he was an industrious sort, everybody was grieving, and I'd get the backstory later.

*snicker*

Amazing how that man's head works.

Oh dear.... That totally sounds like Jordan, though...

I am sorry about the loss of your kitty, but at least he had a Viking(ish) funeral.

I abjectly and sincerely apologize for cremating Tommy in the furnace. While my rational was that the ground was frozen and that seeing him would make you sad, today I can easily see that my head was not screwed on right at that moment. He was my buddy too and seeing him lifeless on the floor broke me a little. Sometimes trying to do the right thing just ends up the other way around. I'm very sorry.

I know sweetie. It's kinda funny when you think on it, though...I think it's a appropriate thing for a cat who was so funny in real life, to have such a funny-in-retrospect death...

Yeah, but it made me feel even worse that I did the wrong thing when I was trying to do the right thing. When my aunt passed away she was cremated and my head just made all sorts of connections between that, and her cat Wooger who looked so similar and then passed away half a year later, and then Tommy.

I'm glad it's more funny than tragic now for you. And yes, you can now parade my bonehead move to our buds on LJ. It's just punishment and sure beats the alternative (AXE!) options.

That's just ... something else. Horrifying and comical and perfectly logical, all at once.

Grendel-cat got a Viking burial -- Patrick dug the hole and laid her out on pine boughs, and we gave her grave goods and covered her with a teeny-tiny cat-sized cairn.

See, I first heard the story this morning from Stefka, and she described it to me as a Vikingr funeral. Now, in my just woken up state, what I saw in my mind's eye was straight out of the sagas or movies, probably a mixture. Then the confusion set in. I know I can magic up a boat in a few hours, and it will float, be period(ish), and have proper ballast, and will even be wood; as I am sure Jordan can. What was bothering me was: Where did he get the virgin slave, did he make armor and shield as well, where in the world did he get the 13 upright cats as torch bearers, who told the Thomassaga? I am sure Jordan could have blown the war horn to tell those in the Valhalj that Thomas was coming.

See, this is why I need so much coffee in the morning......
