Do you think that it's possible for a pet to be unable to handle being in a single pet home? Why or why not?

Yes, I do. I wouldn't feel comfortable having a dog in my home without some other companion animals around because I am gone so much of the day and I feel like dogs need companionship. I would also not let my cats be alone because they are used to company.

Sure. Some animals are extremely social and need the companionship. I know they say not to have just a single rat on its own as a pet because it will get incredibly depressed. Some cats and dogs are like that, too, especially if there's a specific other dog/cat they're already bonded with.

It's kind of the similar as certain pets who need to be single pets. (ex. my friend took in a cat whom the shelter said could not, under any circumstances live with other cats--she was too aggressively violent with them. Certain dog breeds don't get along well with other dogs.) Opposite sides of the same coin.

Yes. Some animals are naturally social animals.

Yes. I think it's rare, but it can happen. How likely it is depends on the pet's personality, species, and upbringing.

If the humans work during the day, then yes.
