Do you give your pet table scraps? Do you think it's a good practice or should pets not be encouraged to eat from human plates? What about food that's dropped on the floor?
We feed our cats table scraps, but usually make them wait until we're done eating, and put the plates on the floor. Sometimes we give them bits while we eat tho. They know they can't touch a plate that's not on the floor tho.
It's amazing what they will and won't eat! I've had the littlest one GROWLING and hissing at the others...over a piece of broccoli. lol.
Yes I give my cats small pieces of things we're eating if it's something that's okay for them to have. Usually chicken or fish. They go effing crazy for it and I think it's good for them to some non-processed meat, since sadly we can't afford to keep them on a diet of wild sashimi-grade raw alaskan salmon. If we drop anything I pick it up even if I then give it to them anyway because I don't want them to get into the habit of eating anything they find on the floor, in case their tastes begin to branch out to non-edibles :P
Not off the plates, because then they'll think they can eat off plates when you're still eating (our youngest thinks that anyway despite never being allowed to eat off a plate). Stuff off the floor is fair game. Unless it was toxic, I guess, but I don't think there's any food so toxic to cats that a teensy piece of it would hurt them. I'm sure someone will school me, though.
Hm never thought of that. We don't give our girls things off plates, but when we had my MIL's dog for a while, she'd dive into plates and bowls off the coffeetable, while our girls never, ever do that. Very interesting.
(Our dog never begged until my freakin' husband gave him a table scrap last Thanksgiving. He was all, "It's Thanksgiving, and he's been a good boy! He deserves some turkey!" Okay, and now he's a relentless beggar. Like he just figured out our food really does taste as good as it smells, and he really does have a chance of getting some. THANKS.)
