Potentially kinda cool though, but I think medical usage is the big bad here. I don't think we have a right to hybridize things to harvest organs. Any new creature should have its own animal rights

It's the concept of organ harvesting that bothers me. It feels wrong to create a new species for such a limited purpose. It will need to have rights, like any other animal, and probably more so, if they're going to be giving it human-like aspects. It likely will not be able to be food, if it's got human parts. It would have no purpose other than organ-donor, or test subject. I don't think it's right to do that to animals as it is, let alone ones that are closer to us

I suspect you would not say "how many advances do we need" if you were the one that needed it. I mean, even if you turn down medicine... your useing as much technology to survive as anyone.... try going outdoors without cloths right now... see if you are dead by the time you come back in.
population growth basicly slows to a halt in places with modern liveing conditions... and lack of poverty... its already starting to reverse towards a population crash in 1st world countrys... itally especially is haveing to promote haveing MORE kids to keep a stable population.

You're right. That's why I included "as we are all by nature selfish and self-preserving creatures, we will continue to cling to life through whatever means have been thought up", 'cause we'll all do it.

Ha ha. At their relative size and life spans, perhaps they would advance quickly, and obersvation would reveal something profound to humans... or not.
