I wouldn't do this, but I'm a bit biased...I used to own a '96 Saturn, and it was around that mileage that I started to have a lot of problems. It started out where I was like "okay, if I put $800 into it now, that's okay because it's still better than having regular car payments." But the next month was another $200, and then three months later it was going to be a $1500 repair and since my car was only worth between 1 and 2 thousand it just wasn't worth it because it still wasn't a terribly reliable car even with the repairs...while newer saturns have worked out the bugs, these older models had a lot of problems. We ended up just donating it to charity. My parents gave me the money they got as a tax writeoff for it to go towards a new car.
