Actually, you don't even need the quotation marks.

You don't _need_ them but you're supposed to use them in HTML to enclose attribute values (in XML and XHTML they're required).

And I got the plain text to show up because I'm magic.

(< becomes < and and > becomes > -- the &something; format is how you mark all special characters in HTML)
