I know you hate your job, but isn't a job better then not job at all? Sure you have the funds to do it, but what about health insurance, etc...
Have you tried bostonworks.com, careerbuilder.com or some headhunter services? I had been searching and interviewing for roughly 6 months before I found this job. These things don't happen over night.
I used a recruiting company, which made things easy for me since I wasn't getting calls at work. They would email me during the day and I would reply back with my available days, then they would set up the interviews. You should try that to help with your stress.
No one makes a decision like this without considering all options, all factors, and the worst case of what can happen. Nor does one make such a decision on impulse.
Whether or not you agree with it, a decision has been made, and a difficult one at that. I hope we can lend Val our encouragement and support, along with our advice.
I am shocked that everyone here approves! You are her boyfriend, its your job to talk her out of doing things like this. Remind me to never ask for work advice! Clearly you'd help someone to the street (which is where she will be living if a job doesn't appear in one month).
Everyday people go to a job they hate and say 'this is it, I'm quiting!', and don't actually quit. Why? Because unemployment is one hell of a lot worse then having a shitty job. And the old saying wouldn't be "its easier to find a job when you have a job" if it wasn't true. And suddenly, if you don't get a job right away, you have a gap in employment to explain. And lack of an address for resumes when she is moving...
All the best, but quitting something for nothing is hardly a wise decision. Yes, it takes balls. But balls don't put a roof over your head.
