Alternative and modern rock one-hit wonders of the 90s

Aug 16, 2007 11:25

I'm looking to relive my middle and high school days through the music I used to listen to. I want to put together a mix CD (or collection!) of the one-hit wonders that we all knew and actually liked - no "Barbie Girl" or "Macarena"! I keep adding to the list mentally, but I figured I'd start getting it down in text form for when the time comes. A ( Read more... )

Not sure they are all one hit wonders, but they are all from about 5-10 years ago.

Lou Bega - Mambo #5
Chumbawumba - I get knocked down
Ricky Martin - Living La Vida Loca
Good Charlotte - Little Things
MXPX - Responsibility
Pink - Don't let me get me
Fiona Apple - Criminal
Uncle Kracker - Follow Me
Lifehouse - Hanging by a Moment

btw - Buckcherry had some good recent hits. Crazy Bitch just last year

Oooh, some good ones in there - I completely forgot about Criminal and Follow Me.

I was actually putting Chumbawamba on the list when you posted your comment.

The Lifehouse song was 2000, I had to check it cause I was gonna put it on before. I was sad.

Here's a few that come to mind for me. Some of them may or may not be one hit wonders, depending on what radio stations you were listening to in the 90s. (For instance, WEQX picked up at least two other Soul Coughing soungs.) Also, some of the artists (like Self and The Jesus & Mary Chain) have extensive and excellent catalogs.

Hum - "Stars"
Lo Fidelity Allstars - "Battle Flag"
Self - "Cannon"
God Lives Underwater - "From Your Mouth"
The Jesus & Mary Chain - "Sometimes Always"
VAST - "Touched"
The Crystal Method - "Comin' Back"
Soul Coughing - "Circles"
Stabbing Westward - "What Do I Have To Do?"
Kicking Harold - "Kill You"
White Town - "Your Woman"
Eiffel 65 - "Blue"

I like "Barbie Girl." I just downloaded it like a week ago.

If you have a moment, read this. It starts with, "If this were a sci-fi melodrama, it might be called Speech-Zilla meets Trademark Kong."

And yes, it's a real federal appeals court opinion.

That judge is awesome. I found a better quote near the end:
"But all of these are variants of
the invective most often hurled at accused infringers, namely
“piracy.” No one hearing this accusation understands intellectual
property owners to be saying that infringers are nautical
10502 MATTEL, INC. v. MCA RECORDS, INC.
cutthroats with eyepatches and peg legs who board galleons
to plunder cargo. In context, all these terms are nonactionable
“rhetorical hyperbole,” "

There doesn't seem to be a way to edit the comment to remove the header that got stuck in the middle. Also, in skipping the citation following that quote, I missed the next sentence.
"The parties are advised to chill."

Hey, I like Barbie Girl too, and I have it on my computer. I'm just trying to keep this particular list out of the pop genre.

That was a great read. There needs to be more judges with good senses of humor out there.
