I'm not sure what "passing through the contrary" means.

I read it as passing thru the feelings that are the opposite of peace..e.g., anger, fear. The key from my perspective is the passing thru part..as opposed to pushing away. But that' s just MHO

That's how I understood it, too. Like as in the sage is almost passive, "willing" to feel peace within the opposite of peace.

Willing to feel peace even in the midst of its contrary.

And I think from that comes true peace, the kind that can't be shattered by external events.

Well, I like the original quote better. :)

I wonder what "swami" means? I know "guru" means "one who dispels shadows" or something along those lines.

Personally, I read it as chaos, as moving through the storm before you get to its eye, and then as passing through the time of the storm to get to the time of the rise of sunnier weather.

Goodness, isn't that true. I wonder if I already commented on this entry. That will be funny if I did.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. I was thinking of you and wanted to see if you'd written lately! I hope everything is going as great as it should be!
