I'm trying to grow my hair long. My hair thinks this is a great. Its using its new found freedom to grow upwards, outwards, curlier and wirey. Trouble is, I want it to grow downwards and straight.

A load of points, so I'll work my way through your reply.
As for straighteners - poker straight would be nice. I was thinking of a slicked back look, something I can't achieve with gels alone. Is it straightening really that permanent? I got the impression that hydrating the hair by washing it was enough to reverse the effects.
I'm sure you're right - a cut is the way to go. Although I'll have to figure out what I want style wise - thats something I've never had to do before. Maybe I'll get the opportunity to chat with the hairdresser extraordinaire next time I'm at Harvey Road.
As for washing and conditioner - I think I've cracked it. Since I've moved, I've had the opportunity to use a proper power shower. So for once, its really not a hassle to wash it daily. Shampoo and separate conditioner. I've had loads of problems in the past, but the key seems to be mild but regular, and avoid medicated shampoos like the ( ... )

I'm not a hairdresser, and a good salon will give you a restyle consultation for free anyway. I just remember what I read in womens magazines.
It has to be said that since mine has become less curly, I don't have to worry about this stuff quite as much anymore. Which is rather nice.

Then when your hair is grown simply remove it and nobody will spot the difference!
