I”ve been waiting and waiting for summer to start, and then I realised longest day had come and gone and this was it. Now I understand why half of Scotland leaves for other countries during the summer hols. It’s very beautiful, but when your average temp is 11C I can’t say it feels ( Read more... )

It has not been *too* dreadfully hot here, but I am still envious of your lush scottish summer.

I'm always surprised when people complain about cold water at beaches. Maybe it's because I hate the heat so much, but I'm always like... yes, cold! that's why I go to the beach! to be cold! The boy is always saying you can't swim at this beach or that beach because it's too cold, and I'm just like ?????? I want my water bracing.

I know people do swimn and surf there, and I can in summer, but for the most part it's...not fun unless it's a really awesome day.

Though I did enjoy swimming in that hidden beach in Simon's Town where there were penguins. Granted it was the height of summer, but the water was nice and I only freaked out because I touched kelp and I'm terrified of kelp.

Although, of all places to swim in Cape Town, Muizenberg's the warmest. In midsummer the temps can get up to 19-20C. Which now sounds warm to me, but my memory is not of warm water....lol.

Mmm...Cape Town sea. I went in it once, in midsummer. It took about 5 minutes before my feet went completely numb...

Which beach though. Clifton, Camps Bay etc is freezing. Best places to swim are Muizenberg, Fish Hoek and Simon's Town.

In winter I would walk barefoot in the water while I walked the dogs on the beach, Your feet stop feeling anything after a while, but I don't think I could swim.

The beach in question was Betty's Bay. The warm side, in theory...
