Beach Day and the Eternal Summer

It's the hottest summer in Scotland since 1976, and the Brits are Not Coping. To be fair to them, their houses are designed to retain heat, unlike the ice boxes I've lived in in Cape Town. So a constant temp of 25C means the upper stories (where bedrooms normally are) basically become heat boxes where you sit covered in a fine sheen of sweat at all ( Read more... )

I'm so happy I moved to Idaho here and am out of California. It's been averaging between 35 and 46 C where I used to live all summer. Up here, it's been nicely between 25 and 35C. Today is our hottest day so far this year, and it's 35 outside, 31 upstairs inside my house. Which sucks, cuz, yeah, no A/C, just have to wait for evening and open the windows to let the cool evening air in. It does get consistently down to 15 at night, no matter how hot the day, so the house does ultimately cool back off, but I have to have a fan on me all night. Fortunately, there's only about 15-20 days a year that it gets over 32. The rest of summer is lower, and it's supposed to cool off dramatically this week. Yay! I'm ready for fall and winter temps to kick in.

Love the beach pic, and yeah... I totally get leaving when the other people arrive. I do the same thing.
