This post is sort of a continuation of my previous post Girls Love Superheroes. There were so many links and recommendations I wanted to feature but could not fit in, especially as my post got longer. Because of this I’ve decided to make a couple of follow-ups.

As an aspiring comic artist myself, I get so frustrated with people about this type of sexism. They don't even realize they're doing it and they just perpetuate this nonsense that cool, attractive girls (and boys, for that matter) can't read comics because it makes them weird and automatically unappealing.

It's almost insulting when people look at me and say, "Wait. YOU read comics?! But you're cool!" Why yes, I am a reasonably attractive, smart, and fairly popular sixteen year old girl who loves art and writing and what happens when you put those two bits of brilliance together - comics, in all of its factions.

So yeah, I think it's great you're writing about this. When I posted the questions "Why don't girls read comics? Why is that embarrassing? Can anyone answer that concretely?" on my facebook, I got all of the same answers. Because people assume you're weird and it has a bad stereotype. Well, if YOU would stop thinking that, I can guarantee a lot more people would. Jeez.

Thanks for your comment. :) Comics are awesome.

All of this has inspired to finally try my hand at scripting out a comic like I've always wanted to. I've wanted to for years but since I cannot draw at all it's always been something I've set aside, which is a shame. If I could write a superhero comic that just has female MCs and has an eye towards female readers that is at least a start in some way.
