Erik Stark Masterpost

Charles/Erik or Erik gen - Marvel AU, Erik is Howard Stark's ward
(Honestly, I know bugger-all about Marvel characters outside of the mutants, but this one has been gnawing at my brain since I saw Captain America the other week. I'll take C/E or snapshots of Erik's youth or epic sagas or... anything really! I just want to see how things might have worked out...)
When Dr Abraham Erskine flees Nazi Germany, he doesn't do so alone. The man who arranged his false papers agreed to do so on the condition that Erskine took his young son with him, then wrote the boy into the paperwork for good measure. Once in the US, Erskine takes the boy as his ward and young Erik watches the Super Soldier project from the sidelines, being helped with his English by Peggy Carter and adopted as a sort of unofficial mascot by the scientists and others. When Erskine is killed, Erik is distraught, but is taken in by Howard Stark, who feels sorry for the kid and has resources to spare.
Stark is pleased when young Erik proves to have an instinctive feel for and love of engineering, and somewhat horrified when Erik's powers start to manifest as he immediately assumes that Erskine used the boy as a test subject. Erik manages to convince him that this wasn't the case and a fascinated Stark helps him to develop his powers in a sane and loving environment... and if Erik's abilities help with the development of certain commercial projects, and Stark Industries suddenly develops a curious talent for locating and exploiting new ore deposits, well, neither of them is going to complain (and there is a certain amusement value to watching commercial rivals struggle to work out the technology behind Stark's top-secret 'Lodestone Project').
So, Erik is happy, gainfully employed, insanely rich and superpowered... but he's also aware that his inborn ability sets him apart and wonders quite how he came to be how he is. When, in 1962, he gets word of research into human mutation being done at Oxford University, he investigates further and then flies to the UK to find out more.
And that's how Charles Xavier comes to find Erik Stark, the world's most eligible bachelor, on his doorstep one evening, offering him a blank Stark Industries cheque to fund his research. How he reacts to this offer is up to you, anons...
Bonus: Erik still has a taste for Nazi-hunting after discovering his birth-family's eventual fate (and that of that nice Mr Rogers).
2nd bonus: how does Raven react to having Mr Tall-Gorgeous-and-Loaded turn up and start courting (intellectually or otherwise) her brother?
3rd bonus: Shaw is still out there... and so's the CIA.
Tl;dr - Erik is adopted by Howard Stark and, curious about his abilities, offers to fund Charles's research.
Unfortunately, I am quite busy in work so updates are likely to be slow and infrequent. I will also be looking for a beta to look through the final work before I post to AO3, but that is in the far future.
