Poor Lucy. I never even gave it a thought about her getting confused that she's not just visiting with you. I hope that she completely bonds with all of you soon, but I fear your vacation is going to make that even harder. :-(
I know. But Pat won't be gone as long as the girls and I. He's coming over for 10 days. I was planning on booking her into a kennel, but now I'm thinking about asking our neighbors' teenage daughter (on the other side, not the former owners) to feed her and take her out a few times a day to do her business and play...
I think it would be best to get some advice from an animal behaviorist at this point, your vet should be able to recommend someone.
And maybe work on making the crate a fun place, I always started out by leaving the door open and placing treats in there so that the crate was a pleasant experience.
Poor little Lucy. :( :( She feels abandoned by her former family...can I ask why they gave her up? I know the sort of anxiety the poor pup has...it's not quite as bad as major separation anxiety like my Tito had but bad enough. :(
It will take more time for her to adapt and the chewing is still puppy behaviour. My Sofia is 2 and a half and just leaving the chewing stage.
They were vague about their reasons but assured us it was nothing to do with Lucy. From comments her kids have made to mine (and based on my own observations), I strongly suspect marital difficulties. Sad.
Just wish they weren't right next door. It's definitely making the transition harder for her.
