Don't worry, I completely understand! I get really upset when people that are supposed to be good friends don't acknowledge my birthday or barely do, but I think it's because I always make an effort for everyone else's. I sent all my good friends presents from America when I was living there for their birthdays, and most of them didn't bother to get me anything for mine (even though I was back in the country by that point so there was no need to post it or anything.) It's frustrating, and sounds silly, but it does make a big difference.

Happy belated birthday! Despite it not having an auspicious start, I hope your year just gets better and better.

Birthday expectations are the worst. I hardly ever plan anything, so I can't be disappointed. This year one a bunch of my friends tried to flake on my birthday celebration, which was dinner at a NICE restaurant WITH reservations that my mom had come into town (ie, from CA to NC) to celebrate. One of my really good friends tried to not come because his parents were in town, even though they live about 4 hours away and visit about once a month, and another tried to flake out saying she had too much work. I was so upset about the whole thing that I just had a bad time the whole night, though I didn't let on to anyone because I was "supposed" to be happy.

I actually really dislike my birthday. But, I love birthday presents! Haha.

*hugs* Not ridiculous. I had your birthday on my mind up until the day it was and I think I forgot to wish you a very happy one! You are wonderful and I hope Mark, Clementine and your mom made you feel so, even if others didn't cooperate.

Right before I read this the other day, I was wishing Bernd had given me a birthday card. He kept asking me what I wanted - implying something expensive, which he knows isn't me at all - and I said every time he asked, "Write me a little card," and he says he will but hadn't gotten to it yet by my birthday. That is much sillier than anything you mentioned above.
