My hat's off to Zach Braff. I finally watched Garden State yesterday and I reaaally liked it. It's cute, it's sweet, it's funny, well thought, it's got great lines and the direction is just lovely. I absolutely enjoyed it. Natalie Portman was simply delicious in it, too. Quite different from the the bad bad Padme ( Read more... )

I didn't like. It didn't help that I find Julianne Moore for some unexplainable reason...

You find her what? I find her distant and unengaged, and that she only works in a role when the character is distant and unengaged too. For instance, in The Big Lebowski. Otherwise, I don't really like her. She sometimes really irritates me, she's so bad at really relating to characters around her with any warmth.

Heh, people mention Julianne Moore and I just can't help saying that.

Matthew McConaughy is delicious. *g*

I find her annoying. So annoying that I can't even say it, apparently. But yeah, she feels... distant, that's a good word for it.

I tried watching Garden State, but I just couldn't do it. It just felt so slow and meandering that I eventually gave up on it, which is something I rarely ever do. I watch all the immensely long, foreign films that don't seem to have an end in sight so I don't know what triggered my dislike of this one.

Maybe, in some small part, it was that my expectations were not met. You hear how good a film is, but once you come to see it you have a hard time agreeing with the general consensus. But then I'm funny like that. I never liked American Beauty much either.

I know that perhaps the plot is not all that consistent, but I didn't find it long at all. The fillers work for me. Last night I was watching some 80 minutes (only 80 minutes!!!) local film that wouldn't end, but I didn't get that feeling with GS. I'm used to watching lots of international stuff, so I'm used to slow films, but in this one I found that slowness cute. *shrugs* Perhaps Scrubs had some influence in my POV? I'm not even THAT big a fan, lol.
