I don't need an arbitrary date telling me that I need to be thankful. Why can't I just be thankful?
Agreed. I think these kind of holidays (Thanksgiving, Valentine's, etc.) start with great intentions: to remind people to step out of their busy lives and be grateful and celebrate the people they love. But then they become just another stressful thing, and they lose the original meaning.
And not only is the original meaning lost, it's replaced by a totally different one. It seems that, with the holidays, love and appreciation have been replaced with obligation and false expectations.
