I often am amazed by things that the powers that be seem to think we should care about. Things such as who won ‘Dancing With the Stars’,the idea of an Alvin & the Chipmunks movie and, according to this article,  crying candidates.

I think this is part of who we are as humans. People fit as mental models, and every so often, those models take over. For example, McCain as tough guy actually needs crying since he's viewed as so tough as to be cantankerous.

It's funny to watch the cognitive dissonance of people when someone doesn't fit their mental models. The humor of Saturday Night Lives "Ambiguously Gay Duo" is a prime example of the loops people will do to deal with this sort of feeling. I'd think that sort of thing would be anethema to a politician, akin to the "flip flopper" identity (well, I guess ambiguity is a possible mental model. That's ironic).
