Free is Not Always Good

Let me apologize in advance. This is a rant. And not a very well written rant at that, but here goes...

Anyway, Stevie Wonder played a free show at the 'Taste of Chicago' festival today. Yeah, I knew it would be crowded as hell but it's Stevie fragging Wonder! I had to go.

Ugh! I'm pretty bad in crowds, so I probably wouldn't have gotten through the line-up, much less managed the barn yard. Even to see Stevie... though it would be more tempting for him than for most acts I can think of.

Apparently, the concert was incredible. He played for almost three hours and put on a real good show. One of the people I was with stayed for the whole thing and really enjoyed it.

My main complaint was the absence of crowd control and total lack of planning. People were waiting in line for hours while others just pushed their way into the line and got in.

I have gone to a crowded event at that location before and we just brought a blanket and picnicked. It was still crowded but we had our own space staked out. Sure, we couldn't see much but we still had a good time.

There expecting 2 million people for the fireworks for the 4th of July celebration. I plan on being far, far away!
