I actually haven't heard of anything like Slay-a-thon anywhere else. As far as I can tell, it's just a local grass roots thing put together in conjunction with the Make A Wish Foundation. It would be great to see it catch on in other places.
I attended my first Slayathon two years ago when I first moved here. Not only was it a fun event, but it was a great way to meet people. Buffy peeps tend to be cool peeps.
And again, not the same thing but I saw that there is a Buffy group in London:

Not sure how far that is from you, but if you're in the London area, it may be a fun thing to check out.

Buffy people are definitely the best,I've found you can bond with total strangers over a love of herself. Also makes for excellent stories, along with the odd injury, when you try and show everyone how you are just as good after a night in the pub.
