Yes, the conventions are for many political reasons - but aren't they the biggest waste of time and resources! I saw a great photo essay of the results of the "Greenest Convention". It was pretty bad the amount of trash. Sigh.

For example, I read something that McCain wants to use the Republican convention as sort of a telethon to raise money for the victims of Gustav. Sure, it's politically motivated but it's a step in the right direction.
Rather than spending time and money talking about how they're going to solve problems, why not use those resources to try to actually solve them. If McCain is able to raise money and actually help people, that'd mean a lot more than listening to him just talking about it.
I've been glued to CNN and the Weather Channel today and I really need to get away from it! It does look like things are a lot better than with Katrina. I still have a good friend that I haven't been able to get in touch with but everyone else has checked in safe. Thanks for asking. (-:
