Ian T might be able to help more but certainly in Bicester (Jn 9 M40) it's pretty terrible. The roads are barely gritted (although they're hoping to do more today) and there is still 8-10" of snow on the ground. Saying that, the A34 etc was passable but it's not fun. I'm sure the M1 would be better but check out http://www.highways.gov.uk/ for more info.

The centre of England has been hit pretty badly but not sure about Leicester itself. I'd post on facebook, Ian might see it and I think he's up there at the moment?

Being in Leicester, the main roads are clear, we seem to have missed the worst of the snow and only have a picturesque covering.
I have just had a friend over who lives in rural Leicestershire and he said the main roads are clear there too.

Main roads are fine in the Birmingham area, as far as the midlands goes. Si drove over to Nottingham and back today and had no problems either. Small roads not gritted though, so if you're planning to drive into the middle of nowhere up a hill you may have problems.

Main roads seem to be fine everywhere I've driven. Backroads are slippy. Use your sense and I'm sure you'll be fine
